Thai Day 2011 in Abu Dhabi
The Royal Thai Embassy and the Thai Ladies Club in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi organized Thai Day 2011 on 4 February 2011 during 11.00 15.00 hrs. at the Thai Ambassadors Residence.
H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Thai Ambassador to the UAE presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a short remarks elaborating the objective of this event in promoting Thailand as well as her culture and tradition such as food, performances, and massage among foreigners residing in the UAE. Moreover, he emphasized the fact that Thai Day 2011 was a charitable bazaar and all proceeds after expenses will go to charity organization in Thailand.
Thai Day 2011 offered many kinds of Thai food including pad Thai, tom yum kung, hor mok, pad mee Phuket, som tum, coconut jelly etc. A few outlets also displayed and sold different types of souvenirs from Thailand. In addition, two outlets offered Thai massage and the Tourism Authority of Thailands kiosk disseminate information of tourism in Thailand. In the meantime, a number of traditional performances consisting of Thai dances, ram muay Thai, sword dancing, and recital of Thai musical instrument were also highlights of the event.
On this occasion, over 250 people from the general public and diplomatic corps participated. The bazaar also drew attentions of the local media from both newspapers and television channel.
